A Monkey and Two Cats

Posted on 5:44 AM by Unknown
It was the aftermath of a big festival. Two cats were prowling together.

One of the cats saw a big cake and mieued. The other jumped up and picket it.

The first cat said, “Give me the cake. It is I who saw it first.”

The other cat said “Keep away from it. It is I who picked it up.”

They were fighting and fighting. But there was no solution.

Just then, a monkey passed by. He thought “What foolish cats they must be! Let me make use of this chance.”

He came to the cats and said in a loud voice. “Don’t fight. Let me share the cake among you both”. The cake was handed over to the monkey.

The monkey split the cake into two parts. He shook his head and said, “Oho! One is bigger. One is smaller”. He had a bit of the bigger and now said “Oho! This has become smaller now”. He ate from the other. And thus, he went on eating from part to part and finally finished the whole cake.

The poor cats were disappointed.

Puzzle- Where is the remaining 1 Rupee?

Posted on 5:40 AM by Unknown
Three friends went to a hotel. The bill was Rs 75/-

Each One contributed Rs.25/-.

The Waiter took the bill to the cashier.

The cashier was happy & decided to give them a discount of Rs.5/- & asked the waiter to return them Rs.5/-.

Now the waiter was confused. How to distribute Rs 5 among 3 persons?

He kept Rs 2 in his pocket & gave one rupee to each one of the 3 persons.

So initially each one had contributed Rs.25. Now as they are given 1 rupee back, their contribution reduces to Rs 24.

They all contributed Rs 24 -- that is 24x3=72 & 2 rupees are in the waiter’s pocket.

The total becomes 74. But they had paid Rs 75.

Where is the remaining 1 rupee?

What happened to Rupee One?

Don’t Know the Answer.

Answer:  You are in fact supposed to subtract the waiter's Rs.2 and not add it to Rs.72. This is because it is a Rs.5 discount.  That is why you subtract it.

Let me explain it to you. Initially the bill was Rs.75 for the three of them, but with the Rs.5 discount, the final bill is Rs.70.

Initial Bill: Rs.75

Final Bill: Rs.70

Discount: Rs.5- (Waiter: Rs. 2 and 3 men: Rs.3) which sums up to Rs.5.

Back to the puzzle:  The men were supposed to leave losing only Rs.70, but in fact left losing Rs.72.  Therefore, someone else has pocketed the Rs. 2, in this case was the waiter.  That is why you should subtract Rs. 2 from (Rs.24 x 3) Rs.72 to make Rs. 70, instead of adding it.  You have to find the sum of the discount, which has to sum up to Rs.5.

I hope this shed some light on this problem.

The Ripples

Posted on 5:37 AM by Unknown
A Man was sitting by a lake. He was throwing small pebbles into it from time to time. A young boy happened to cross by. He was intrigued to see that after every few minutes or so, the man would toss a pebble into the lake.

The boy went up to the man and said, "Good pastime, this stone throwing, he?" "Hmmm," said the man. He seemed to be deep in thought and obviously did not wish to be disturbed.

Sometime later, the man said softly, "Look at the water, it is absolutely still."

The boy said, "Yeah, it is."

The man tossed a pebble into the water and continued, "Only till I toss a pebble into it now do you see the ripples?"

"Yeah," said the boy, "they spread further and further."

"And soon, the water is still again," offered the man.

The boy said, "Sure, it becomes quiet, after a while."

The man continued, "What if we want to stop the ripples? The root cause of the ripples is the stone. Lets take the stone out. Go ahead and look for it." The boy put his hand into the water and tried to take the stone out.

But he only succeeded in making more ripples. He was able to take the stone out, but the number of ripples that were made in the process were a lot more than before.

The wise man said, "It is not possible to stop the movement of the water once a pebble has been thrown into it. But if we can stop ourselves from throwing the pebble in the first place, the ripples can be avoided altogether! So too, it is with our minds. If a thought enters into it, it creates ripples. The only way to save the mind from getting disturbed is to block and ban the entry of every superfluous thought that could be a potential cause for disturbance. If a disturbance has entered into the mind, it will take its own time to die down. Too many conflicting thoughts just cause more and more disturbances. Once the disturbance has been caused it takes time to ebb out. Even trying to forcibly remove the thought may further increase the turmoil in the mind. Time surely is a great healer, but prevention is always better than cure."

Moral:
Before you allow a thought or a piece of information to enter your mind, put it through the triple filter test of authenticity, goodness and value.

Game of Life

Posted on 6:11 PM by Unknown
There once lived a wise man in a village. So it hurt him very much when the village headman told him, "Your son doesn't know, what's more valuable, gold or silver."

The wise man called his son and asked, "What is more valuable - gold or silver?"

"Gold," said the son.

"That is correct. Why is it then that the village headman makes fun of you & claims you do not know the value of gold or silver? Explain this to me, son." Father asked.

So the son told "Every day on my way to school, the village headman calls me to his house. He holds out a silver coin in one hand and a gold coin in other. He asks me to pick up the more valuable coin. I pick the silver coin. He laughs & makes fun of me. And then I go to school. This happens every day. That is why he told you."

The father was confused. "Why don't you pick up the gold coin?" he asked. In response, the son took the father to his room and showed him a box. In the box had at least a hundred silver coins. Turning to his father, the son said, "The day I pick up the gold coin the game will stop. Village headman will stop having fun and I will stop making money."

Moral : Sometimes in life, we have to play the fool. That does not mean we lose in the game of life. It just means allowing others to win in one arena of the game, while we win in the other arena of the game. We have to choose which arena matters to us most.

Be A Lake

Posted on 6:02 PM by Unknown
The Old Man instructed the Unhappy Young Man to put a handful of Salt in a Glass of Water and then to drink it.

"How does it taste?" the Old Man asked.

"Awful," spat the apprentice.

The Old Man chuckled and then asked the Young Man to take another handful of Salt and put it in the lake.

The two walked in silence to the nearby lake and when the apprentice swirled his handful of salt into the lake,

The Old Man said, "Now drink from the Lake."

As the water dripped down the Young Man's chin, the Old Man asked,

"How does it taste?"

"Good!" remarked the apprentice.

"Do you taste the salt?" asked the Old Man.

No, said the Young Man.

The Old Man sat beside this troubled Young Man, took his hands, and said,

"The pain of life is Pure Salt; No More, No Less.

The amount of pain in life remains the same, exactly the same.
But the amount We taste the 'pain' depends on the container we put it into.

So when you are in pain, the only thing you can do is to enlarge your sense of things.

Stop being a Glass. Become a Lake.
